Syrian FM to Attend Sharm Meet on Gaza

Syria will participate in next week’s conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt on rehabilitating the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, its foreign minister told reporters yesterday in Damascus. Tensions between Syria and Egypt reached a high during Israel’s offensive in Gaza last month. …

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also be attending the conference in her first visit to the region. Whether she will meet with Moallem remains unclear, as such an encounter would indicate the willingness of the Obama administration to loosen isolation of the Syrian regime.
