The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution calling for strong U.S. support for the Lebanese government by a vote of 415 to 2. A draft of this resolution was submitted earlier by Congressman Gary L. Ackerman, chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia.
Ackerman accused Tehran and Damascus of seeking the destabilization of Lebanon through bombings, political assassinations and other means. “It is time for Congress to send a strong message of support for the democratically elected and fully legitimate government in Lebanon,” said Ackerman.
